FEATURED NEWS
When will Tarrant county have 70% of students reading at grade level?
The average growth over the past four years has been only 1.25 percentage points annually.
If the district continues to grow at the same slow average rate seen between 2017 and 2022, it could take up to 102 years for 70% of students to read at grade level.
Tarrant students saw reading improvement through new program. Its funding has run out.
Funding Shortages Threaten Successful Programs: The LIFT program, an initiative significantly improved reading skills for kindergarten through fifth grade students in Fort Worth, has run out of funding given through a grant from Parent Shield.
Parental Awareness and Involvement: Many parents in Tarrant County were initially unaware of their children’s reading struggles. Programs like LIFT have not only provided essential reading interventions but also raised awareness among parents about the importance of early literacy support.
Educational Inequity and the Need for Continued Support: Despite 90% of Tarrant County parents believing their children read at grade level, only half of the children actually do. This highlights a significant gap in literacy that programs like LIFT aim to bridge. The success of LIFT underscores the critical need for continued investment in similar educational interventions to ensure all students have the opportunity to achieve reading proficiency, mirroring challenges faced in many Texas districts.
